Why does laptop consume more internet data?
Why does laptop consume more internet data?
Note - fast of all, Here we will talk about Windows 10.Windows 10 is designed for an always connected, always up-to-date operating system. This is the most data-intensive version of Windows yet, but you can prevent it from going all-out on your home network with a few tricks.
Check Application Data Usage:-
Despite all Windows 10 Automatic updates, a very large portion of the data usage on your PC probably comes from the applications you use. Windows 10 includes a new "data usage" tool that allows you to see how much data each application is using on your computer. It will also help you track data-using programs, including third-party apps.To check your data usage in the last 30 days, open the Setting App from your Start Menu and go to Network & internet> Data Usage. You will see a graph showing how much data your Windows 10 PC has used in the last 30 days, between Wi-Fi and Wired Internet. To see which applications are using the data, click or tap "Usage Details" here. You'll see a list of applications that have used the data in the last 30 days, and the applications that have used the most data will top the list. This lets you know where your data is going. For example, you can see how much data was used by the Web Browser of your choice.
Stop automatic windows update:-
Windows 10 normally downloads and installs the update automatically without your input. Microsoft updates Windows 10 a lot, and those updates can be quite large. To do this on any laptop, set up the Wi-Fi network as Metered Connection here. Windows 10 does not automatically download updates over that connection
.
To set your Wi-Fi connection as a meter, open the Setting app, and go to Network & Internet> Wi-Fi. Scroll down to the list of Wi-Fi networks and choose "Advanced Options". Enable the "Set Metered Connection" slider here. This will only affect the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to, so Windows 10 will automatically start downloading updates when you are connected to another network.
Automatic Peer to Peer Update Stop Sharing:-
By default, Windows 10 automatically uses your Internet connection to upload Windows and app updates to other Windows 10 PCs. It is a BitTorrent style system for distributing updates to Windows 10 users. Unlike the average BitTorrent client, Windows does it silently in the background without warning you first. If you set up a connection as Metered, Windows 10 will not upload the update, but you can also close it directly. To prevent automatic uploads to all networks, you will need to open the Setting app, go to Update & Security> Windows Update and click "Advanced Options". Click "Choose How Updates are Delivered" and set this option to "PC's on My Local Network" or disable it.
Save Data on Web Browsing:-
It may be that a lot of your data usage comes from your web browser.
To save data on this web browsing, use a web browser that includes a built-in compressing proxy. The web browser will send the data through other servers where it is Compress before you send it.
Google Chrome provides a data saver extension, and it works similar to the data saver feature built into the Chrome browser on Android and iPhones.Once you correct Automatic Uploading under Windows 10 Automatic Updates and Updates, the Windows operating system should automatically use very little data. Most of your data usage will come from your Web Browser and other apps you use. You will need to keep an eye on those apps and use them with less data.
